guyette and deeter

Easton, Maryland – Guyette & Deeter, Inc. conducted their fall decoy and sporting art auction on November 9 & 10 at the Talbot County Community Center in Easton, Maryland.
The sale featured decoys and sporting art from the collections of Ralph Bergstrom, Lynwood Herrington, Charlie Hunter III, Charles Long, Preston Lowe, Doug & Ellen Miller, Kirby Roberts, Herb Wetanson, and others.  Fish spearing decoys from the collections of Norman & Alicia Volk and Dave Fannon, as well as, duck calls from the collection of Jimmy Thompson.  The sale also featured some interesting creels, rustic furniture, and folk art from the collections of Rafe Lapham & Martha Andrea, and Tom Neelen.

After two days of auctions, gross sales totaled just over $2.3 million, with 43 lots selling for over $10,000, 15 of which brought over $25,000, and 6 over $50,000.  The top lot in the sale was a rare rigmate pair of curlew by Charles Coffin of Nantucket, Massachusetts, that sold for $81,000.  The top painting in the auction was an Edmund Osthaus oil depicting a group of hounds at $57,000.  Quality folk art continues to sell well at Guyette & Deeter with two early cigar store trade figures from the Mark Goldman collection bringing $60,000 and $54,000 respectively.

Guyette & Deeter’s next sale will be the inaugural Fine Sporting Arms auction held February 4 at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland. Quality consignments are being accepted for the April Decoy and Sporting Art Auction until February 15.
