St. Michaels, Maryland – Guyette & Deeter's Spring 2024 Fine Sporting Arms sale was held February 10, 2024. The sale was highly anticipated as a measurement of strength in today's Fine Sporting Arms market. The sale included a beautiful selection of fine American, English, and Continental Sporting Arms literally sourced from consignors around the world.

The highlights before the auction included a number of superb Winchester Model 21's. Headlined by a very rare 2 barrel set "Grand American" model. The gun carried a pre-sale auction estimate of $50,000-$80,000 and landed just above its high estimate at $81,000. Another Model 21 Grand American in 20ga and 410 bore estimated at $30,000-$50,000 achieved $66,000!

Parker Shotguns are a main stay at Guyette and Deeter and this sale had a well diversified offering of investment grade Parkers to high quality vintage shooting arms. Topping the charts were a very rare Parker DHE Grade 28 gauge gun which sold for $42,000. An early Parker Brothers Grade 6 hammer shotgun in 10 gauge estimated at $12,500-$17,500 sold for $24,000! A Parker 12 Gauge Trojan Grade (the most utilitarian grade by the maker) which had its original hang tag with it was estimated at $2,500-$3,500 ended up selling for $6,000.

Other American Shotgun highlights include a beautiful Lefever C Grade 10 gauge gun which was considered the very finest of its type known to knowledgeable collectors. The gun carried a pre-sale estimate of $10,000-$15,000 and made $21,600. A near mint L.C. Smith 410 bore sold for $10,800. Another L.C. Smith Grade 5 estimated at $1,500-$2,500 sold for $6,000. A beautiful A.H. Fox CE Grade 20ga sold for $10,800 against a $9,000 low estimate.

Leading the way for English Sporting Shotguns, a beautiful and impressive Boss & Co. 20ga shotgun sold near its mid estimate at $48,000. A beautiful Holland & Holland 20 gauge shotgun sold towards the high end of its estimate for $39,000. A fine 16 gauge Purdey estimated at $17,500-$27,500 sold right near its high estimate at $27,000. Rounding out the strength shown in the English Sporting Shotguns was a very rare John Rigby Rising Bite Shotgun estimated at $7,000-$10,000 made $12,000.

There were several superb and high quality sub-gauge Italian Sporting Guns including a superb Abbiattico & Salvinelli 410 bore Excalibur Model which was estimated at $20,000-$30,000 and found a new home at $31,200. A very rare true left handed two barrel set 20 gauge side by side shotgun by the same maker which was engraved by world renowned 20th century engraver, Angelo Galeazzi, estimated at $9,000-$14,000 sold for an impressive $19,200!

Double rifles and bolt action rifles showed great strength with a Daniel Fraser & Co. Express Falling Block rifle selling for $9000 against a high estimate of $4,000. A beautiful Westley Richards .360cal Express Double Rifle with its case sold for $7,200 against a high estimate of $5,000.
