Portsmouth, New Hampshire - Guyette, Schmidt & Deeter's annual summer decoy auction was held July 17th & 18th in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The sale shattered several key records and totaled more than $2 million dollars, making it our most successful summer sale in over seven years. Many who attended the sale enjoyed the complimentary harbor cruise, food and beverages during the auction.
Bidding during the two days was strong, caused by a renewed interest from seasoned collectors along with new participants entering the market. The auction’s top two lots include an Elmer Crowell standing wood duck at $115,000 and a James T. Beckhart duck call at $103,500, a new world record for a duck call. Additionally, forty three items sold for over $10,000. The fastest growing segment of participation at our auctions continues to be the online bidders, up 20% from the previous year.
This sale pushes Guyette, Schmidt & Deeter's all time sales over $136 million and strengthens their position as the leading decoy auction house for both decoys and waterfowl related art. Their next sale will be held in Easton, Maryland on November 7th & 8th Consignments for this sale will be accepted until September 15th.
