Sale Featuring Decoys and Sporting Art
April 27 & 28, 2017 - St. Charles, Illinois
Guyette & Deeter, Inc. conducted their 32nd annual spring decoy auction on April 27 & 28 at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois. It was held in conjunction with the National Antique Decoy & Sporting Collectibles Show. The auction grossed over $2 million, with 41 lots selling for over $10,000 and one lot selling for over $200,000. This year's auction featured one installment of the largest assembly of Canadian Decoys ever to be offered at auction. The collection, built by Peter Brown, from Vancouver, British Columbia, is now in the possession of Ducks Unlimited Canada, who will be the beneficiary of the net proceeds from the sale. Mr. Brown's collection consists primarily of Canadian decoys, with fine examples from coast to coast. The top lot in the auction was a pair of pintails by Ivar Fernlund, from the Brown collection, selling for $201,250. Other top lots include a pair of Mason Factory mallards selling for $46,000, a mallard by Enoch Reindahl selling for $46,000, and a black duck by Ivar Fernlund selling for $47,725.
Gary and Jon attributed the solid prices to Guyette & Deeter's guaranteed condition reports and a Buyer's Premium that has remained at 15%.
Guyette & Deeter's next sale will be held July 25 & 26 at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Quality consignments are being accepted until June 5 or until full.
