33rd Annual Spring Decoy Auction Grosses $2.2 Million

St. Charles, Illinois - Guyette & Deeter, Inc. conducted their 33rd annual spring decoy auction on April 26 & 27 at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois. It was held in conjunction with the National Antique Decoy & Sporting Collectibles Show. The auction grossed $2.2 million, with 31 lots selling for over $10,000 and four lots selling for over $100,000. The auction featured decoys from the collections of longtime decoy collectors Peter Brown, Dixon Merkt, Robert Personius, Doug and Ellen Miller, and Doug and Carol Whittington. All geographic areas were well represented, but the strongest included Illinois River, Ontario, and Mason Decoy Factory. The top lot in the auction was sleeping mallard hen by Robert Elliston that sold over estimate for $212,400. Highlights include a goldeneye drake by the Ward Brothers selling for $159,300, a sleeping black duck by Shang Wheeler selling for $153,400, and a preening mallard hen by Charles Perdew selling for $135,700.

Guyette & Deeter's next sale will be held July 23 & 24 at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Quality consignments are being accepted until June 5 or until full.
