Easton, Maryland – Guyette and Deeter, Inc. held its annual fall auction on November 10 & 11 in Easton, Maryland. The sale was held in conjunction with the Easton Waterfowl Festival, which celebrated its 50th year. This was the first auction with a live audience since Guyette and Deeter’s 2019 fall auction and prices through the sale were strong, with the sale grossing near the high estimate at $4.6 million. Three lots sold for over $100,000 and 82 sold for over $10,000.
The decoy offerings were highlighted by a pair of geese by midwestern carver, Mandt Homme. One of Homme’s geese sold at a world record auction price for the maker of $156,000, and the other for $144,000. The highest selling lot of the auction was the cigar store “Indian Princess”; which was sold for an outstanding $570,000.
The sale featured many important collections, highlighted by the Charlie Hunter, III collection. Other collections included were: Virginia & Jonathan Chua, Dr. John Dinan, John & Vickie Forbes, Norma & John Gass, Dick & Lynn Gove, Dale & Gary Guyette, Lynwood Herrington, Gene & Linda Kangas, Don Kirson, Dr. Preston Lowe, General Warren Magruder, Robert & Sylvia Mangold, Steven Michaan, D.C. North, Kirby Roberts, Henry Stansbury, and Bruce Williams.
Guyette and Deeter, Inc. continues to lead the industry, setting new world auction records for carvers at almost every sale. Records set in their fall auction were for carvers such as, Miles Hancock, Captain Frank Newnam, Mandt Homme, George Skerry, Harry Ellison, Eli Doughty, Ron Tepley, Ned Burgess, Otto Weinert, Doug Jester, Carl Wagner, and Lee Lester.
The company’s next sale will be held April 28 & 29, at the Westin Chicago-Lombard. This sale is held in conjunction with the North American Decoy Collectors Association Show. Quality consignments are being accepted through February 25 or until full.
