Easton, Maryland - With the help of a Cigar Store Indian and a North Carolina swan decoy, the Guyette, Schmidt & Deeter auction on November 6 & 7 grossed over $3 million, right at its high estimate. The Indian, in a collection in Louisville, Kentucky since 1974 sold for $747,500, 3 times its estimate and a world auction record for a Cigar Store figure. The swan by William Basnight, (Manteo, North Carolina) was in storage in Connecticut since 1957 and sold for $183,750, 10 times its estimate and an auction record for the maker.
The sale featured the collections of Bob & Wilma Gerard and James “Spann” Jeffers. 41 items sold for over $10,000, and two sold for over $100,000.
