"Decoys of Maritime Canada" by Dale & Gary Guyette

A detailed study of the decoys and their carvers in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. Over 100 carvers are documented, most of whom were previously unknown. Size 8 1/2" X 11" Hardcover, 204 Pages 350 b/w Photos, 33 Large Color Plates, Schiffer Publishing Ltd. Price: $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling.

Decoys and their makers of the Canadian Maritime region can now be studied through the extensive research contained in this book. The region, including Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick, is actually the northern section of the Atlantic Flyway. Few of the many fine decoy carvers from these areas have been identified before, while the little information that has appeared often has been inaccurate. Maritime Canadian decoys are available on the market and can be found in collections in the United States as well as Canada. Many of them are among the finest decoys made in North America. The book is more than a reference, it celebrates the folk artistry of a people as expressed in their decoys. Many wildfowl species are represented, including the more unusual loon, the sea gull, and the harlequin duck. Over 350 high quality black and white and 33 color photographs illustrate styles that prevailed in various areas and identify individual carvers' work. Illustrations of unique hunting methods, old photographic portraits of certain carvers, and several maps round out the supporting material.
